Metu
and Lee are based on the author's six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter.
In the Indian language of kutchi, the term "mithu" means "sweetie" for a boy,
and the term "mitulee" means "sweetie" for a girl.
K.I.P. stands
for Knowledge is Power. By giving children knowledge, you empower them with
tools to deal with life. What this character can do will be revealed in future
issues of the Metu and Lee Series. It's a surprise!
From the hair
to the ring on her finger, the characteristics of Dr. S are those of the author,
Dr. Shenin Sachedina. For more information about Dr. S, check out the page about
the author.
Radiation Rod
was designed with the assistance of the author's son. They wanted a character
that was lightning-like. The flash devices in the palms of his hands are used
to zap the cancer.
Intravenous
chemotherapy is in liquid form. Chemo Commando is a droplet of IV chemo, so
think of him as a droplet with an attitude! The gear he wears is inspired by
the author's son's love for the martial arts - the weapons he holds are her
son's favorite martial arts weapons. The medic band was a contribution from
the author's husband. It inspires healing, hope and help.
On ultrasound,
lumps that are nice and round have a less likelihood of being a breast cancer.
The lumps with the jagged edges are more likely to be a cancer. So if you look
at the characters, the good cells have nice round edges, and the bad cells have
jagged edges.
The author's
daughter had a friend named Isabella, who was her first best friend. Every doll
in the Sachedina's house was named Isabella for the last two years, so it was
the obvious choice for the name of this character!
Notice the similarity
between the mom character and the Dr. S character? They could be sisters. Well,
the mom character is the other half of the Dr. S character. Dr. S and mom are
the two alter egos of the author that came together to create the Metu and Lee
Series.
This character
looks nothing like the author's husband, but the kindness of the face and the
heart are clearly his nature showing through.
